Glasgow Restaurant Scene

Diners are all fired up about the restaurant scene in Glasgow, and with good reason.

Restaurants here routinely receive great reviews from guests and food critics alike, and the city is home to a multitude of quality eateries.

To make the culinary scene even more satisfying, many of the restaurants in Glasgow can now serve their customers liquor by the drink, thanks to passage of a November 2007 citywide referendum.

One restaurant benefiting from that referendum is Sorrento Italian Restaurant, which serves cocktails and wine as accompaniments to its fine menu lineup.

“We are an upscale restaurant with beautiful visual amenities such as chandeliers, a fireplace, linen tablecloths and real silver flatware,” says Dawn Purvis, owner of Sorrento Italian Restaurant. “And by the way, our food is quite incredible, too.”

Popular dishes at Sorrento’s include lobster ravioli, shrimp scampi, spaghetti marinara, chicken marsala, Chilean grilled sea bass and jumbo lump crab cakes. The restaurant is also known for its filet mignon and rib eye steaks.

“What makes us truly special is that we make all of our garnishes by scratch, and the freshness in our food keeps customers coming back, time after time,” Purvis says. “Our sauces, salad dressings – even our croutons – are all made from scratch.”

Other favorites in Glasgow include Colton’s Steak House & Grill, known for its excellent steaks and savory Caesar salads, and Buckhead Café, known for its black-and-blue burger – a juicy burger topped with Cajun spices and blue cheese.

Los Mariachis specializes in spicy Hispanic cuisine – including made-from-scratch tortillas and authentic Mexican soup – while at Las Chalupas, customers can enjoy six kinds of enchiladas and nine different fajitas.

Tumbleweed Southwest Grill, which celebrates 10 years in Glasgow in April 2009, offers a large menu of Tex-Mex items seasoned with bold and tangy flavors. The steaks, ribs, chicken, chops and seafood are grilled over a live mesquite fire, which sets Tumbleweed’s fare apart.

“Our restaurant features flavors that are found in foods that have originated in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico, but customers can enjoy them right here in Glasgow,” says Glenn Sheehan, general manager of Tumbleweed Southwest Grill.

That includes the sweet, smoky flavor of the mesquite grill and the tangy zing of chile seasoning in burritos. Some menu favorites include grilled tilapia stada with enchilada sauce, and a mesquite bison burger.

“There really are many delicious and different food options in Glasgow and Barren County,” Sheehan says, “which makes dining fun and so satisfying.”
